well im glad thats cleared up :giggle:
thanks gents, it clarifies that there is a limit to authenticity - i can be quite anal when it comes to trying to do things right, so debates like this help me get an understanding of the requirements and expectations. As i dont want to ruin peoples experience because i did something wrong, but i also dont want to end up in an argument about something small so all this helps me set the right level of expectations with regard to what is required to contribute.

Here we go, early war kradschützen shooting south-paw!:

“I wanted to come to the Volga at a specific location at a specific city. By chance it carries the name of Stalin himself. So don’t think I marched there for this reason – it could carry another name – but because there is a very important goal... this goal I wanted to take – and you know – we are very modest, we have it already."
Adolf Hitler, November 1942

"Comrades, Red Army men, commanders and political workers, men and women guerrillas! It is on your perseverance, staunchness, fighting skill and readiness to discharge your duty to the country that the defeat of the German-fascist army and the liberation of the Soviet land from the Hitlerite invaders depend! We can and must clear the Soviet land of Hitlerite vermin."
Joseph Stalin, November 1942

And how about this amateur film of Wehrmarcht training of the Landesschützen-Bataillon 278, based in Bussum (Netherlands)

Check the naughty soldat at 02:20 brazenly shooting his K98 left-handed right under the eyes of the instructor!

I especially like the bit from 03:43, with a bunch of Great War vets sporting EK2 ribbons patiently listening to the man with the silliest haircut in the world telling them how to be soldiers, even though they've probably killed more Tommys and Frenchies than this fella has even seen

Gosh, male pattern baldness and severe army haircuts do not go well together...

wrt kit, you should probably sling it for field use how it suits you (but not for parade!). I wouldn't regard the breadbag as a useful general purpose bag, it is almost impossible to get anything in or out of it in its normal position without taking the whole thing off - which of course is the point as you aren't supposed to be munching your bratwurst in the middle of a battle... The gas mask in is far more handy for immediate access stuff, as are pockets.

So, my car keys and wallet go in the bread bag, not to be seen until evening again, lunch in the messtin and everything else I need shoved into pockets and/or gas mask tin. Belt space is so tight for German stuff if you have a full loadout that you don't really have many options to sling equipment differently. I usually sling the gas mask tin 'backwards' as I find it easier to get into, but lots of pics show it worn that way around.

Probably a good idea to try out different combinations beforegand and see what works for you.

Cheers
Martin
